Last two weeks of training...
This are going pretty good. Not journaling real consistently but making progress. We got stone platforms built and going to be picking up a yoke so things should be getting interested.
Also, I got my bi-annual axle death attempt out of the way, which is a load off my mind.

Hittin' the grip
The weeks highlight video is shaping up to be worth watching and also to have a lot of decent grip work in it. I'm still looking into it but I'm thinking I might have hit a world class grip feat on Monday.
Video up on Sunday night.

Video Log 3 9-21 through 9-28
Some of my grip training (i.e. grippers) has been a bit limited lately because I am feeling symptoms of carpal tunnel in my right hand, from using the touch pad on my laptop so much, but will be getting back into the swing of things gradually here. Thinking about trying to train for Gripmas on Dec. 12th. I suggest you do the same.

Vlog Sept. 6 - Sept 13
Taped over the axle power cleans. Had a good lift at 293 (which might technically be a PR). Had two NEAR misses at 303. Technique problems caused it as I turned the bar over into the rack both times so the grip was solid.

Saline Highland Games
This write-up has been a long time coming for a couple reasons. I was waiting for the results to be posted as I didn't record my throws but I finally just had them sent to me. Also, there was some pretty fucking terrible circumstances surrounding this games (my first, for the record). My mom and step-dad were in town visiting that weekend (that's not the terrible part ;) ) and were planning on coming out to watch the games. They had retired to their hotel on friday and the wife and I were doing our reading thing, about to go to sleep when my phone rang. Now, late night calls from home (4 states away) aren't generally a good thing so I went in the other room to answer it basically knowing the night was about to go to shit. And it did. The call was from my father-in-law telling me that his nephew (so the wife's cousin) with whom they were quite close to had died in a motorcycle accident. So after breaking the news to the wife and spending a few hours on the phone finding out details and, myself, putting down a good handful of Jimmy Beam in honorary toasts I managed about 2 hours of sleep. My assumption being that the games are out of the plans which was perfectly reasonable and was to be my insistence. The wife's, however, were different. So we went and all managed pretty well with the day. It slipped my mind, however, and thus I neglected to mention to her and the folks that the opening ceremony in a highland festival includes several powerful songs on the bags, but in particular Amazing Grace. I couldn't see into the stands but apparently this one hit hard and after the first verse of the song or so I made my way out of the competitor tent off to the side. No disrespect intended and I don't think anyone noticed, so all is well. So no sleep, some booze, no food... shaping up to be an interesting day.
I found myself falling quite naturally into the groove of a few of the events, similar to first trying strongman. My background as a thrower and a strongman proved to be a solid combination. Competing in HG is like 10 years in the making as I found myself enthralled in the games long before I lifted a weight or knew of strongman. I'm planning on taking this a long way.
I threw in the C's because it was my first games but I was definitely out of place. Props to the other C's for having good spirits about it.
Light Hammer - 16#
First throw was 99' 9" - I shouted "3 INCHES"
102' 2"
Braemar Stone - 23#
I beat my PR from a strongman comp (with a 22#) by like 2 feet. This stone sucked, too.
37' 3"
Weight for Height - 56#
I had once had several near misses at 13' in this event about 5 years ago. Was a mission here. Could have cleared 14 or 14' 6" for sure based on what people said.
13'
Sheaf Toss - 16#
Had the height for 27 like 3 times but couldn't line it up. Have to practice this one. Got tied height-wise but won on misses.
25'
Heavy Weight for Distance - 56#
Just did a one turn style so we'll see...
25' 6"
Light Weight for Distance - 28#
Tried the two turn in warm-ups and it was natural and smooth, went with it.
56' 2"
Caber - not sure on height or weight, but wasn't real tough, I just suck at it.
No throw, 12:00 and a 12:15
I only got second in the caber. Won the C's easily. Looking at the results I would have won the B's and ended up 3rd or 4th-ish in the A's. I'm pretty pumped about this. I've got expectations set for next games in Lake City, MN on July 25th.
We also did the customary bonus event - FW for distance with 150's. I had been sitting around for like 2 hours before they finally started this so I didn't do as well as I had hoped... and actually got beat by like a foot... surprising, but impressed. I went like 405 feet and took home some cash.
Felt like dogshit.

Michigan Griptogether and Training
We had a Griptogether out here in at at Larkin's last weekend. It went well. My pinch training was crap on Zach's pinch set-up. I think Coulter matched it. Have to rectify that. Hit a rear weaver stick at 13 and 1/4 pounds so not too bad there. I think I matched my front weaver PR of 7.5 again. Was easier this time. I finally tilt lifted the Coulter Bell. After watching Dave do it I saw has easy it is. Got it on tape. Also took a random stab at closely ol' black again. That thing aint as bad as people say it is and I shouldn't still be missing it. Gotta start squeezing grippers again; bought an SE from Chad and will be picking up a smooth FBBC or two from soon, too, so that should help.
The silver inch still doesn't want to go, though it doesn't roll out as fast. Gonna have to get serious there, good thing I won a 2.5" FBBC DB at MGC09.
Coulter also convinced me to finally press the Coulter Bell. Did it pretty easy. He was running the camera but there was no footage of it. Figures.
7-8-09 - Trying out a few different formats
~45 Degree Incline Log Press
85x10
175x10
265x5
280x3, x2
My incline is worthless.
Axle C&J
307x1 - DO Cont.
357x0x2
This was good.
